Verizon Guided Tour App Yields Patent Win

Verizon won a U.S. patent for a mobile app that could alert subscribers visiting museums and amusement parks when they approach or miss an attraction.

Verizon system engineer Michelle Felt is named as lead inventor on the patent, which was published earlier this month. Felt was profiled in this Verizon video, which includes a look at the guided tour application, last year.

The Verizon veteran comes from a family of inventors. Felt, her sister and father have won between them more than 30 patents. 

Verizon filed for Felt’s latest patent, titled, “Systems and methods for enhancing a user visit to a site premises,” in October 2013.

Abstract: Exemplary systems and methods for enhancing a user visit to a site premises are disclosed. An exemplary method includes a mobile device tracking a geographic location of the mobile device, accessing site data associated with a site premises, and providing an interactive user interface configured to enhance a visit of a user of the mobile device to the site premises based on the site data associated with the site premises and the geographic location of the mobile device within the site premises. In certain embodiments, an output may be selected based on the geographic location of the mobile device within the site premises and provided via the interactive user interface for experiencing by the user of the mobile device. Corresponding systems and methods are also disclosed.

Claims: 

1. A method comprising: receiving, by a site premises interface system from an operator device associated with an operator of a site premises, site data associated with a plurality of site features within the site premises, wherein the plurality of site features are operated by the operator of the site premises; maintaining, by the site premises interface system, the site data for access by a user of a mobile device; tracking, by the site premises interface system, a geographic location of the mobile device during a first visit of the user to the site premises; providing, by the site premises interface system, the site data to the mobile device based on the geographic location of the mobile device during the first visit of the user to the site premises; receiving, by the site premises interface system from the operator device associated with the operator of the site premises, input modifying at least a portion of the site data; maintaining, by the site premises interface system, modified site data for access by the user of the mobile device; tracking, by the site premises interface system, the geographic location of the mobile device during a second visit of the user to the site premises; and providing, by the site premises interface system, the modified site data to the mobile device based on the geographic location of the mobile device during the second visit of the user to the site premises, the providing of the modified site data to the mobile device comprising providing an interactive user interface configured to enhance the second visit of the user to the site premises based on the modified site data and the geographic location of the mobile device within the site premises during the second visit of the user to the site premises.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising: receiving, by the site premises interface system from a plurality of mobile devices associated with a plurality of users, data associated with a plurality of visits to the site premises by the plurality of users; and aggregating, by the site premises interface system, the data associated with the plurality of visits to the site premises; wherein the input modifying the at least the portion of the site data and received from the operator device associated with the operator of the site premises is based on the aggregated data associated with the plurality of visits to the site premises.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the data associated with the plurality of visits to the site premises by the plurality of users includes data associated with the first visit of the user to the site premises.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the data associated with the plurality of visits to the site premises comprises location data for the plurality of mobile devices.

5. The method of claim 2, wherein the data associated with the plurality of visits to the site premises comprises feedback provided by the plurality of users via the plurality of mobile devices.

6. The method of claim 5, further comprising: prompting, by the site premises interface system, the plurality of users to provide the feedback.

7. The method of claim 5, further comprising: providing, by the site premises interface system, the feedback to the operator of the site premises.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the interactive user interface includes an interactive map of at least a portion of the site premises, the interactive map visually indicating a location of a site feature included in the plurality of site features within the site premises.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the interactive user interface is configured to enhance the second visit of the user to the site premises by providing an output for experiencing by the user based on the geographic location of the mobile device within the site premises during the second visit of the user to the site premises.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the output comprises an alert provided based on the modified site data and configured to notify the user that the site data associated with the plurality of site features within the site premises has been modified.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the modified site data represents a geographic location of a relocated site feature included in the plurality of site features within the site premises.

12. The method of claim 1, embodied as computer-executable instructions on at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium.

13. A method comprising: tracking, by a mobile device, a geographic location of the mobile device within a site premises during a first visit of a user of the mobile device to the site premises, the site premises including a plurality of site features operated by the site operator; accessing, by the mobile device from a site premises server subsystem during the first visit, site data associated with the plurality of site features within the site premises; providing, by the mobile device, an interactive user interface configured to enhance the first visit of the user of the mobile device to the site premises based on the site data associated with the plurality of site features within the site premises and the geographic location of the mobile device within the site premises during the first visit; providing, by the mobile device to the site premises server subsystem, data associated with the first visit of the user of the mobile device to the site premises for aggregation with data associated with a plurality of other visits by a plurality of other users to the site premises; tracking, by the mobile device, a geographic location of the mobile device within the site premises during a second visit of the user of the mobile device to the site premises; accessing, by the mobile device from the site premises server subsystem during the second visit, modified site data associated with the plurality of site features within the site premises, the modified site data associated with the plurality of site features comprising site data modified by the site operator based on the aggregation of the data associated with the first visit of the user of the mobile device to the site premises and the data associated with the plurality of other visits by the plurality of other users to the site premises; and providing, by the mobile device, the interactive user interface configured to enhance the second visit of the user of the mobile device to the site premises based on the modified site data associated with the plurality of site features within the site premises and the geographic location of the mobile device within the site premises during the second visit.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the data associated with the first visit of the user to the site premises includes at least one of location data for the mobile device and user feedback.

15. The method of claim 13, wherein the modified site data represents one or more changes to the site premises implemented by the site operator based at least in part on the data associated with the first visit of the user to the site premises.

16. The method of claim 13, wherein the interactive user interface is configured to enhance the second visit of the user to the site premises by providing an output for experiencing by the user based on the geographic location of the mobile device within the site premises during the second visit.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the interactive user interface includes an interactive map of at least a portion of the site premises, the interactive map visually indicating a location of a site feature included in the plurality of site features within the site premises.

18. The method of claim 13, embodied as computer-executable instructions on at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium.

19. A system comprising: at least one physical computing device that: receives, from an operator device associated with an operator of a site premises, site data associated with a plurality of site features within the site premises, wherein the plurality of site features are operated by the operator; maintains the site data for access by a user of a mobile device; tracks a geographic location of the mobile device during a first visit of the user to the site premises; provides the site data to the mobile device based on the geographic location of the mobile device during the first visit of the user to the site premises; receives, from a plurality of mobile devices associated with a plurality of users, data associated with a plurality of visits to the site premises by the plurality of users, the plurality of mobile devices associated with the plurality of users including the mobile device and the plurality of visits to the site premises by the plurality of users including the first visit of the user of the mobile device to the site premises; aggregates the data associated with the plurality of visits to the site premises by the plurality of users; provides, to the operator of the site premises, the aggregated data associated with the plurality of visits to the site premises by the plurality of users; receives, to the operator device associated with the operator of the site premises, input modifying at least a portion of the site data, wherein the input modifying the at least the portion of the site data and received from the operator device is based on the aggregated data associated with the plurality of visits to the site premises by the plurality of users; maintains the modified site data for access by the user of the mobile device; tracks the geographic location of the mobile device during a second visit of the user to the site premises; and provides the modified site data to the mobile device based on the geographic location of the mobile device during the second visit of the user to the site premises by providing an interactive user interface configured to enhance the second visit of the user to the site premises based on the modified site data and the geographic location of the mobile device within the site premises during the second visit of the user to the site premises.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the data associated with the plurality of visits to the site premises includes at least one of location data for one or more of the plurality of mobile devices and feedback.

21. The method of claim 13, further comprising: prompting, by the mobile device, the user to provide feedback by way of the interactive user interface, wherein the data associated with the first visit of the user of the mobile device to the site premises comprises the feedback provided by way of the interactive user interface.
