Top remote control manufacturer Universal Electronics Inc. is supplying Charter Communications with the remote that will power the MSO’s new Spectrum digital cable product, according to an FCC report obtained by The Donohue Report.
Charter Spectrum Remote 2015, model number URC-1160BCO-R, has passed emissions tests at the FCC, according to a test report released on Friday.
The underside of the remote features a design pattern that similar to the design of the Charter Spectrum Worldbox set-top that Cisco is manufacturing for Charter.
Charter announced in November 2013 that it would use Spectrum as the brand for its next generation digital cable product. The Charter brand is not displayed anywhere on its new remote or set-top. By focusing on the Spectrum brand, Charter is following a strategy similar to what Comcast and Cablevision have done with their respective Xfinity and Optimum brands.
