KT Expands Into Smart Energy and Self Driving Cars

In a move that could foreshadow the type of next-generation products Verizon, AT&T and other U.S. wireless carriers may introduce, South Korean mobile carrier KT Corp. is beginning to pitch a smart energy solution to subscribers.

KT also unveiled a plan to use its LTE network to deliver systems for self-driving cars, a security system powered by a thumb-sized dongle and an open Internet of Things platform.

KT, one of the first wireless carriers to launch LTE Broadcast (eMBMS) services, is already promoting its new “KT-MEG” smart energy product in TV spots.
