Facebook Eyes Virtual Reality Commerce, Marketing, Dating Services

Interactive dating, commerce, and marketing services aimed at viewers wearing Occulus headsets are among the new virtual reality products Facebook is considering, according to 10 trademark applications obtained by The Donohue Report on Monday.

Marketing, advertising and promotion services Facebook could introduce under the Occulus brand include “promoting the goods and services of others,” “online retail store services featuring virtual reality headsets, and virtual reality content and data,” and “providing online facilities for connecting sellers with buyers,” according to trademark applications filed by Facebook subsidiary Oculus VR, LLC.

Oculus VR, which plans to ship its Rift virtual reality headset in the first quarter of 2016, is also reserving the right to use the Oculus brand for entertainment services, virtual reaity gaming software and helmets, according to trademark filings.
