Comcast has won FCC approval to deploy a set-top capable of delivering High Dynamic Range (HDR) video, according to a test report published Wednesday.
Manufactured by Pace, the Xi5 “is a set-top box with one HDMI output for connection to a television. The EUT [equipment under test] can accept inputs from Wi-Fi, HDMI and Ethernet. The EUT is controlled by remote control over RF4CE and/or Bluetooth,” according to the test report.
Comcast announced plans to deploy the Xi5 in May 2015. EVP Matt Strauss noted that the Xi5 will offer “increased color, contrast and brightness.”
