Cisco Builds ‘Premium’ Power Over Ethernet Access Point

A major U.S. telco is likely the Cisco customer that will deploy a new Wi-Fi access point that receives both power and data at gigabit Internet speeds over the same Ethernet line.

The Wireless-AC/N Premium Dual Radio Access Point with PoE (Power over Ethernet) is manufactured by Pegatron Corp., a Taiwan-based OEM that has also produced several advanced digital video set-tops for Cisco.

The device, which recently passed emission tests at the FCC Office Of Engineering & Technology, has Cisco model No. WAP571.
