Apple May Challenge MTV With Launch of B1 Music Network

Apple subsidiary Beats Electronics may launch a music video network called B1, according to two recent trademark applications obtained by The Donohue Report.

Beats Electronics attorney Kimberly Eckhart said goods and services Beats may offer under the B1 brand include “multimedia, television, and radio by means of telecommunications networks; broadcast and transmission of streamed music, audio, video, and multimedia content by means of telecommunications networks,” according to a trademark application filed on Oct. 5.

In a separate application filed on Oct. 7, Beats said it also wants rights to use the B1 brand for “presenting concerts, live performances, entertainment special events, arts and cultural events, theatrical entertainment, competitions, contests, fairs, festivals, exhibitions, expositions, and sporting events.”

Apple closed a $3 billion deal to acquire Beats in August 2014.
